The Kimpton Palomar Hotel is a 23-story luxury five-star condominium hotel that
reflects the convergence of history and modern development in the
Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego. An integral part of an exciting mixed-use
development that includes the House of Blues, The Kimpton Palomar Hotel combines
elegance with ease of access to downtown. By retaining the historic
façade of the Jessop Building, the hotel’s lobby entrance displays a
street level familiarity and local reference point, while the
composition of the new tower clearly marks its presence in the 21st
Century.
Meshing high technology with cost-effective resources, the Kimpton Palomar Hotel demonstrates true energy efficiency. The design includes an
innovative solar photovoltaic collector, designed as crowning the
high-rise allowing San Diego’s abundant sunshine to provide a clean
energy source. “Smart” glazing, recycled fly ash in the concrete
structure, heat-reflecting rainscreen cladding, horizontal sun louvers,
and thermally cool roofs all contribute to overall energy conservation.
